Acting on an "unproven confidential source," police staked out a car dealership in Jackson and arrested the owner and two other men on federal drug charges. Investigators claim they found 416 pounds of marijuana at the used car lot.

Police apparently got a tip from someone who told authorities that people at the dealership were breaking down a bundle of marijuana to sell or distribute, according to the Laurel Leader-Call.

Narcotics agents went to the dealership last week. They apparently smelled marijuana coming from a building and after searching the property found unwrapped bales of marijuana stacked against a wall.

They arrested the owner of the Jackson dealership along with two other men, according to an affidavit signed by an agent for the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Authorities claim one of the men tried to run away prior to being arrested, but was caught and handcuffed.

After the men were arrested, they were ordered to remain jailed pending a detention hearing and a preliminary hearing, as ordered by a U.S. Magistrate judge. Their cases were also assigned to the federal public defenders' office, the Leader-Call reports.

The men are facing serious charges, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Anyone facing federal charges may feel overwhelmed and like the cards are stacked against them. That's why it's important for them to consult with a qualified attorney to walk them through the legal process and to build as strong a case as possible.
