A Mississippi man was arrested last week for charges related to DUI refusal. The driver, who is a county school district school board president, was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving in Raymond.

Police officers claim the man was driving along the wrong side of Mississippi 18 in Raymond. He allegedly almost drove off the road a couple of times. One officer apparently put on his lights and siren, but it's claimed the man refused to pull over at first, and ultimately stopped his car after about five miles. They say he was driving about 50 mph in a 65 mph zone.

He was charged with DUI refusal, failure to yield and reckless driving. According to the Hattiesburg American, the man clarified that he had not been found guilty of any crime. He told the newspaper, "I was charged with DUI refusal. I've not been found guilty of DUI."

The man was voted in as a school board president earlier this month, and is to serve a one-year term. It's not clear whether the recent charges would affect his position with the school board. The superintendent of the school district says he is aware of the charges and would see what happens when the man appeals the charges.

The 47-year-old man was forced to spend the night in the Raymond Detention Center on the evening of his arrest. He was released the next day after posting $2,000 bond.
