Authorities arrested a woman in connection with a robbery for which they claim she dressed like a man to hide her identity. Now the suspect, who is from Tupelo, is facing charges and could face even more, due to the massive operation to apprehend her.

The robbery apparently occurred at Renasant Bank on Highway 25 in Smithville early last week. Police claim they responded to the robbery but a suspect who appeared to be male fled from the scene. Authorities apparently tracked the person with a dog and also looked at video footage taken by local stores.

In the meantime, schools were put on lockdown so officials could set up checkpoints on every road heading in and out of the city.

After finding a car they believed fit the description of the suspect's, the woman apparently surrendered to police without incident later in the afternoon in Lee County. She was identified as a 21-year-old woman from Tupelo. Another person who was in the car with her was not charged, as police did not believe that person was involved in the bank robbery.

After the initial 911 call was made, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the robbery to team up against the suspect. WTVA, which reported the woman's arrest, did not indicate what the woman was charged with or what further charges she could face.

The bank reopened the day after the robbery, after staying closed the remainder of that day.
